Born on 19 5 1868 in Paris. May died in Jersey on 4 1 1950, she was 81.
“In the year 1868 my parents went for a pleasure trip to Switzerland, returning home through Paris, and I was born there. Till I was seven years old (1875) we lived at The Hall, Leyton, Essex. It was a nice house, I always think of it with affection. We had a beautiful garden, with greenhouses and a conservatory, and two large fields, so though we were so near London it seemed quite in the country. When I was seven years old we went to live in Las Palmas, Grand Canary. I remember how sorry I was to leave our beautiful home and garden at Leyton. The voyage out was very enjoyable. Millie and I went out with my Father and Ethel and my Mother followed by a later steamer. We were very happy in Las Palmas till my Father's death (1878), which was a terrible blow to us all. After that Ethel and I were sent to England to school. Millie and my Mother came home a few years afterwards, just before Bernard went to India; He had passed third on the list for the Indian Civil Service. Sidney was already an engineer in the Navy. Both of them were brilliantly clever.”
